Place of Birth: Leicester, UK
Background: Chriss passion for cinematography led him to Guildford School of Art where he gained a Diploma in Film and Television. He joined the educational TV Unit at Wessex TV for two years and then successfully applied to the BBCs Technical Operation department as a trainee Studio Camera Operator. After 3 years operating cameras at BBC TV Centre London, he rekindled his passion for film and defected to the BBC Film Department at Ealing Film Studios where he progressed rapidly from Camera Assistant to Lighting Cameraman.
In his formative years he shot many of the critically acclaimed 40 Minutes documentaries under the editorship of Edward Mirzoeff. His Arena-Arts programme, Scarfe on Scarfe won a BAFTA. He moved from consecutive Christmas day Comedy feature length films of Just Good Friends and Fools and Horses into the highly successful TV Movie slots of Screen One and Screen Two. Here he excelled in films like the BAFTA winner Skallagrigg and the Prix Italia winner The Vampyr Opera.
In 1994, Seager, having completed the shooting of John Schlesingers much acclaimed movie Cold Comfort Farm resigned from the BBC and became a freelance Director of Photography.
His many credits since becoming freelance have included the following feature films: Stonewall, Beautiful Thing, Alive and Kicking, Fever Pitch and Ashes and Sand. His more recent movies have included the successful horror flic White Noise, the action movie Alex Rider - Operation Stormbreaker, the thriller Straightheads and Paul Schraders political drama The Walker. His Television Drama credits have included A Dance to the Music of Time, Madame Bovary, Lorna Doone, The Way We Live Now, Lenny Blue, The Young Visiters and Archangel. His award winning cinematography in director David Yatess State of Play a six part BBC1 political thriller, the Channel Four Sex Traffic and the BBC1 The Girl In The Cafi have been acclaimed by his peers, critics, BAFTA, and the Royal Television Society alike. Many of his Feature Films and TV Dramas have won awards here in Britain and aboard. In 1996 he was invited by his peers to become a full member of the British Society of Cinematographers [BSC] and in 2002 became a member of the BSC Board of Governors.
