Ed Wild studied petroleum engineering at Imperial College London and was also a competitive rower, winning national and international medals, including a Commonwealth bronze medal. His career in filmmaking began after a chance introduction to a film set led him to leave engineering and pursue cinematography.
Wild entered the industry through the camera department, working as a camera assistant and later as a focus puller. His early experience included working on the BBC natural-history documentary series The Blue Planet, which took him into documentary filming and helped develop his technical skills in challenging locations. He also worked on music videos and fashion programming, gradually progressing to become a director of photography.
His early feature-film credits include Christopher Smith’s horror comedy Severance (2006), the drama I Know You Know (2008), and Eran Creevy’s crime drama Shifty (2008), starring Riz Ahmed. He continued his collaboration with Creevy on Welcome to the Punch (2013), an action thriller starring James McAvoy and Mark Strong. Other feature credits include Chalet Girl (2011), London Has Fallen (2016), Collide (2016) and Blithe Spirit (2020).
Wild received an Emmy nomination for Outstanding Cinematography for a Miniseries or Movie for the BBC America drama Fleming: The Man Who Would Be Bond (2014). His television work also includes the anthology series Black Mirror, the martial-arts drama Warrior and the survival drama The Wilds, where his cinematography helped create a fluid visual style suited to the series’ changing characters and locations.
In recent years, Wild has worked extensively with filmmaker Guy Ritchie. His credits include The Covenant (2023), The Ministry of Ungentlemanly Warfare (2024), and the Netflix series The Gentlemen (2024), for which he photographed the opening episodes. He also served as cinematographer on Fountain of Youth (2025).
