Membership
The BSC attaches great importance to the selection of new members. We actively seek out a broad and diverse membership to help shape the future of our Society as well as our industry. We believe that the integrity of our Society relies on a consistent, thorough and fair membership selection process - a process that is regularly reviewed.
By invitation only and reserved for those who have made a significant, sustained contribution to the art of cinematography. Members in this tier are recognised by their peers for a substantial body of work that reflects both technical mastery and artistic vision over a period of at least five years.
Full BSC Accredited members are entitled to use the ‘BSC’ initials after their names on correspondence and CV’s as well as on screen credits.
Beyond recognition, this membership brings a deeper connection to the Society’s mission. Members contribute to shaping the future of cinematography through mentorship, collaboration, and leadership within the Society. They enjoy full voting rights, access to exclusive events, access to a private Discord channel to connect and discuss with fellow cinematographers and the opportunity to help guide the direction of our industry.
Who it’s for
Working cinematographers who are British citizens or have British residency and/or have lived and worked in the United Kingdom for a period of not less than three years prior to their proposal and whose contributions to the industry demonstrate exceptional artistry, craft and impact.
How it’s awarded
Membership is by invitation only from the Board of Governors, via proposals from other BSC Members. Candidates are selected through a fair and thorough process that values diversity, integrity and professional excellence.
Candidates need to have completed a substantial body of work which exhibits a very high standard of cinematography over a period of at least five years, demonstrating creativity and an appreciation of the art of cinema and more than just professional competence.
Requirements
A suitable candidate needs to be proposed and seconded by Full or Full Honorary Accredited members of the society of at least three years good standing. With support from their proposer (and existing BSC Member), candidates must complete an online form and provide a full CV, biography, and personal statement outlining their career journey, influences and key collaborations.
Candidates must submit three separate 10-minute clips from publicly released work in Feature, TV Drama, and Documentary. An optional fourth clip (5–10 minutes) from other genres (e.g. shorts, commercials, music videos) may be included if relevant and approved by their proposer and seconder.
