I can’t recall a specific period of time when my interest in the magic of film started; It probably has been there all my life.  However, I do remember my enjoyment and fascination growing up, watching the magnificent images and stories unfold on screen.

Flash-forward to my late teens, after a short time travelling through Europe,  I stumbled upon the work of some of the great Italian story tellers of the 60’s and early 70’s. Antonioni, Fellini, Pasolini, De Sica, Bertolucci, Leone, Storaro, Spinotti, Rotunno, De Santis, Bigazzi, Di Palma and so many more. Their passion and artistry opened my eyes to an art form that would go on to become my life; The moving image.

Having spent the better part of the early 70s studying at the London Film School, I was lucky enough to find myself in London in the heyday of creative opportunity. As a young assistant I managed to secure freelance work through the renowned Allan King & Associates.  

I have always been incredibly lucky, I have met and worked with some truly amazing people who inspired me every step of the way, as I worked my way from assistant cameraman to camera operator.

I started working on documentaries in the mid 70s to early 80s, then onto some of the most iconic 90s commercials, music videos and tv dramas before setting down on feature films.

In 2001, I had the privilege of being invited for associate membership to the BSC, of which I am incredibly proud. 

 At this point I would like to name a few of the Directors of photography that I have had the pleasure to have worked alongside (many of whom are now dear friends). However, I won’t, because there’s far too many to name and many of them will be featured within this book! 

 I have been enjoying what I do for a very long time and I wouldn’t change a minute of it. I could recall a few stories too… but again, not today. Perhaps one day, on another publication, I’ll spill the beans.
