THE BSC SHORT FILM CINEMATOGRAPHY COMPETITION

CRITERIA AND REQUIREMENTS 2024


Submission is free
Films to be a maximum of 20 minutes.
A 3 minute ‘CUT DOWN ’ of the entry must also be submitted* (see below)
Films have to have been produced within the past 18 months of the closing date.
You may only submit 1 entry 
Films will be judged by full members of the BSC who will take particular notice of the creativity and an appreciation of the art of cinema. As well as how the lighting, composition and camera movement have been used to enhance the story and mood of the film.
Entries from drama, documentaries and Stop-Motion animation projects are all welcome   

  • Student Film (Must be a film produced as part of your institutions curriculum)
  • Student entries from UK Institutes only

 

BSC Student Short Film Cinematography Award
All Student and Graduates (up to 18 months after graduating) from
UK Institutions are eligible and do not need to be BSC Club Members.

Only shorts photographed by BSC Club Members are eligible
to be entered for this award.
Previous BSC Club member winners are eligible to submit again.

Other detail


The three minute ‘CUT DOWN’ can be a continuous or series of excerpts, each no shorter than 30 seconds in duration, in the same order as presented in the film, with the original aspect ratio. The purpose of this is to enable us to engage more of our busy members!!


The entries must carry a front title card of 5 seconds duration, including the title of the production and a brief description or summary of the story. Exclude the names of people and school involved. The card is not counted in the 3 or or up to 20 minute limit.


The video should be uploaded to Vimeo in HD or 2K resolution in the highest quality possible, with download enabled. We will be uploading to our own secure player for our jury.


Please copy your Vimeo links and add these to your entry via the BSC online portal entry form, together with your full name, club or student information, date of production and technical information relating to your entry.


If your entry makes it though to the final nominees, you will be required to make a full length version of your entry available, along with full credits.

 

Deadline for entries is 31st July 2024

Nominees screening will take place on Saturday 5th October at a London cinema
