George Ashworth was Chief Engineer of Denham and Pinewood Studios camera department and one of the founder members of the BSC. He designed and made the 17 inch high, brass replica of a Mitchell camera which is still used today by the BSC at all official functions. In the beginning it held the names of the society’s award winners until it ran out of space. 
 
George was presented with the first Bert Easey Award in 1951 for outstanding work in designing and perfecting a beam splitter camera which advanced the technique of the travelling matte process.
