Education

Over the weekend of 29-30th October 2022, the London Screen Academy (LSA) will become home to a new venture, an Introduction to Cinematography Workshop from the British Society of Cinematographers, delivered in partnership with Digital Orchard Foundation and the LSA. This is one of several initiatives being driven by the newly established BSC Education committee.

The 2-day workshop will be taught by industry experts, featuring a practical approach to learning that will provide hands-on experience ready to take straight on set. Offering a full overview of the camera, lighting and grip departments, the first workshop will be followed by more specialist weekends dedicated to individual crafts and related fields.

The workshops are free and open to those aged 18+ and are specifically aimed at those who face barriers to starting a career in the camera department, and who might otherwise be overlooked or marginalised. The workshops aim to give people improved career prospects, access to networking opportunities, as well as to create a new community of fellow film-makers. Whilst a genuine interest in working in camera is essential, extensive industry experience will not be expected or required.
