Cannes Calling...
The Cannes Film Festival has opened with a bang and the work of society members is featured heavily in line-up! Pictured above is a still from Yorgos Lanthimos' latest feature "Kinds of Kindness", shot by Robbie Ryan BSC ISC. The film takes the form of a triptych fable, following a man without choice who tries to take control of his own life: a policeman who is alarmed that his wife who was missing-at-sea has returned and seems a different person; and a woman determined to find a specific someone with a special ability, who is destined to become a prodigious spiritual leader.
'The Substance' (Pictured above), is the latest film from director Coralie Farageat and features the Cinematography of Benjamin Kracun BSC. The plot of this film is still being kept largely under wraps but they have told us: "Have you ever dreamt of a better version of yourself? You, only better in every way. You should try this new product, it's called the Substance...". MUBI have already grabbed the rights to distribute this film ahead of its Cannes debut.
"Bird" (pictured above) is the latest film from Oscar and BAFTA-winning Andrea Arnold. The film tells the story of 12 year old Bailey, who lives with her single dad Bug and brother Hunter in a squat in north Kent. Bug doesn't have much time for his kids and Bailey who is approaching puberty seeks attention and adventure elsewhere. This film was again shot by Robbie Ryan BSC ISC making it his second film in the main competition.
and finally as part of Cannes Cinema on the Beach programme they'll be a screening of the beautifully restored 4k version of Trainspotting, directed by Danny Boyle and shot by BSC legend, Brian Tufano BSC.
