Robin Vidgeon - CV

I Started in  Pinewood Studios  in February 1956.@ £5.10 shillings a week. Cleaning boxes and being  a regular dogsbody I didn’t go on set to put my first board on until the end of my first year. Reach for the Sky, in special effects   with DOP Bert Marshall. 2^nd year I was allocated to one of 5 permanent crews, mine was Earnie Steward DOP the Fab Bob (Russell) Thompson operator, Johnny Morgan Focus and Grip Reg ( Reginal Hamilton Hall )

At end of that year, Rank made reduntent all the crews and so I was flung into the freelance world, knowing no one.

First job as freelance loader was a 2 week commercial in London with in house DOP Billy Williams. Living at home with my parents , they insisted I went smart to interviews. Their idea was 1.  a flashers mac. 2 , trilby hat and 3   a rolled umbrella ?? at 20 years old ??

My next interview was at Beaconsfield Studios, to be interviewed for a film, CIRCUS OF HORRORS, by Douglas Slocombe BSC and his operator Chic Waterson. I got the job and after a couple of films with them, Douggie went off to do Freud with John Huston, Chic didn’t want to go away for 5 months as he had just become a dad with Jean .

Chic got a film in Ireland with Monty Berman and made me focus. On Douggies return , we joined up again and stayed as a crew for app 25 years

After Temple of doom, I was being offered jobs to light, I believe 2 shoots helped me a lot.  2 music videos, then shot on 35mm, with the great Terance Donavan. ADDICTED TO LOVE AND MADAM BUTTERFLY.
