KEN HIGGINS BSC

Ken entered the industry in 1934 with the G.P.O Film Unit (General Post Office). During war served with Army Film Unit in Burma as film cameraman.

After WWII became a newsreel Cameraman with Gaumont British News.

In 1952, joined BBC Film Unit as film cameraman shooting TV series and documentaries and eventually became one of the top cameramen working on programmes such as: Elgar (1962 Directed by Ken Russell) and other programmes for the Arts programme “Monitor.” During this time he worked with John Schlesinger on Terminus (1961) for British Transport Films under a pseudonym.

After leaving the BBC to work freelance he reteamed with Russell to shoot French Dressing (1963) and followed that with Darling (1965) again for Schlesinger, which earned him a BAFTA nomination. The following year he earned both BAFTA and Oscar nominations for Georgy Girl (1966 Directed by Silvio Narrizano).

In later years he worked on two very successful London Weekend Television series Black Beauty (1972-1974) and Dick Turpin (1979-1982).

He retired to the Isle of Wight after the latter and spent more time with his favourite hobby: gardening.
