PETER JACKSON BSC

PJ, as he was known, had a long career spanning over 40 years. Starting with Five Cities Films in Bradford Yorkshire. He joined Yorkshire Television as a founder member in 1968 and became head cameraman of the Film Department shooting a whole myriad of prestigious material. He retired in 1997 but carried on in a freelance capacity right up until 3 days before his illness. He has so many film dramas and documentaries under his wing that the sheer vastness of this man’s achievements cannot possibly be documented here:

Whicker’s World, Horris, Follyfoot, Flambards, Sorrel & Son, The Beiderbecke Trilogy, Cloud Waltzer, One Summer, May We Borrow Your Husband, The Racing Game, Romance on the Orient Express, The Attic, William Palmer, Chiller, Stalagluft, Shipman, Hamish MacBeth, The Darling Buds of May, A Touch of Frost (37 espisodes), Micawber, The Quest Trilogy and Diamond Geezer – only skims the surface.

PJ was the second DoP in Television to be elected to the BSC something of which I know he was extremely proud. He also received the Lifetime Achievement Award from the Royal Television Society.

PJ has painted light onto some of the industries greats including: Sir David Jason, Dirk Bogarde, Cheryl Ladd, Mary Steenburgen, Paul Scholfield, Catherine Zeta-Jones, to name but few.

The dedication and professionalism he offered to every single production is unsurpassed. The absence of his gentleness, warmth, dry sense of humour and sheer presence will leave an abyss. He will be sadly missed by an awful lot of people.
