When Chloë was 11, she joined The Children’s Film Unit, and completely fell in love with the camera department. It felt like the place where everything was happening. Given an old SLR for her 16th birthday, Chloë started seeing the world in pictures. The combination of her love of cinema, photography, travel, storytelling, and an inability to stick to a job that was the same every day, made cinematography seem like the perfect thing for her.

After working for a few years as a camera assistant on features and TV dramas, Chloë studied for an MA in Cinematography at the National Film and Television School, graduating in 2012. Chloë’s graduation film, VOLUME, remains one of the projects she’s most proud of, even after eight years. A real labour of love, it started a longstanding collaboration with great friend and director Mahalia Belo, and it helped kickstart Chloë’s career.

The most recent of several collaborations with Mahalia was on mini-series THE LONG SONG, an adaptation of Andrea Levy’s novel set during the final days of slavery in 19th Century Jamaica. It’s another of the pieces Chloë is most proud of, primarily because they got to tell a story that doesn’t normally get told. Chloë also worked with Mahalia on 2016 TV drama ELLEN, about a tearaway teenage girl that was part of Channel 4’s Coming Up series, and BBC One series REQUIEM, about a cellist who travels to Wales to probe a disappearance 23 years earlier that seems connected to her family. Her credits also include episodes of Netflix crime thriller TOP BOY, Channel 4 miniseries ADULT MATERIAL about the adult film industry, written by Lucy Kirkwood and directed by Dawn Shadforth, and BBC Films HERE BEFORE, written and directed by Stacey Gregg.

Brian Tufano BSC and Stuart Harris, Chloë’s tutors at the NFTS, were wonderful teachers and mentors there, and have been a great support ever since. Haris Zambarloukos BSC gave Chloë a much-needed confidence boost during a review when she was questioning herself at the end of her first year at the NFTS, and Haris has been a kind and generous mentor ever since. Seamus McGarvey BSC has been instrumental in supporting Chloë, giving advice and mentorship with great positivity and enthusiasm, and pivotally, for encouraging her to apply for BSC membership, and proposing her in 2019. Lol Crawley BSC and Rob Hardy BSC have given great advice and invited Chloë to shadow them on set.

Chloë’s work has been screened at festivals worldwide, including Cannes and Sundance. Chloë was nominated for an RTS award for Best Cinematography for THE LONG SONG, work she’s shot has won BIFA, BAFTA, and RTS awards, and her animation graduation film was nominated for an Academy Award. Chloë was a 2017-2018 BAFTA Breakthrough Brit and in 2019 was named a Screen International Star of Tomorrow.
