The traditional Summer Lunch in the 68th year of the BSC was a truly wonderful occasion with members and their guests enjoying a pre-lunch drink on the terrace and meeting with old and new friends.
Phil Méheux BSC kindly hosted the event held in the historic Ballroom of Pinewood Studios welcoming visiting DPs, Philippe Rouselot ASC AFC and Bradford Young ASC along with several honorary members and proffering a toast to absent friends we lost last year.
The event marked the BSC Best Cinematography Award and the presentation of the BSC ARRI John Alcott Memorial Award. Unable to be with us, newly elected President, Mike Eley sent the following message: “It is particularly disappointing for me since this would have been my debut Summer lunch as president. I stood in for the President on this day a few years ago and very much enjoyed the view from the podium, surveying this beautiful room full friends, colleagues and loved ones enjoying what I think is the premiere event in the BSC calendar.” He ended with, “In these days of national introspection, it is good to be reminded that our industry is one that ranks among the very best in the world. On both sides of the camera, our men and women are in demand across the globe. All of you here today are part of that.”
Phil Méheux presented certificates to BSC new members, Felix Wiedemann and Ole Birkeland as well as Polly Morgan who became a member last year but was only now able to collect her certificate. Danny Bishop also collected his certificate of Associate BSC membership.

Seamus McGarvey ASC BSC was delighted to accept the BSC Best Cinematography Award for 'Nocturnal Animals' which also received 3 nominations and 1 win at the Golden Globes earlier this year. Congratulations to Seamus!

After a citation from Nigel Walters, Phil was taken aback to be awarded the ARRI John Alcott Memorial Award for services to the Society from Judith Evans of ARRI Rental, prompting a standing ovation. Phil said it rendered him “speechless” - but not for long!

A good time was had by all.
Our thanks as ever to Bob Evans at Panavision for mounting and inscribing the awards, our patron MBS Lighting for providing the lighting for the buffet, to Richard Blanshard for photographing the event and, as always, to Helen and Audra for organising the event.
