Tragic death of Mark Milsome

All members of the BSC have been devastated to learn the tragic news that Camera Operator Mark Milsome had died whilst filming a stunt sequence in Ghana in an incident during a night shoot on The Forgiving Earth for BBC/Netflix.

An incredibly talented camera operator and a gentle and generous  man, Mark was only 54 and our hearts go out to his parents  Douggie Milsome BSC and his wife Debbie and to Mark’s wife Anda and daughter Alice.   Our thoughts are with them at this dreadful time.

We at the BSC are very concerned about this incident. An investigation into the circumstances surrounding Mark's death is now under way and we hope and trust it is scrupulous, thorough and impartial.

As his agent Sarah Prince commented "We all need answers to this dreadful tragedy”.

Mark’s credits include Sherlock, Call the Midwife, 24: Live Another Day, Game of Thrones and The Durrells. He had also worked in various capacities on such films as The Theory of Everything, Saving Private Ryan, Finding Neverland, The Constant Gardener, The History Boys, The Theory of Ever

A huge loss to his family and friends and the film industry.

“Mark was one of the nicest, kindest, incredibly talented cameramen but completely humble with it.  A gentle gentleman, forever positive, a delight to work with, he will be so greatly missed by us all.

“I had the privilege of working with Mark on ‘Wondrous Oblivion’;  apart from being supremely talented, knowledgeable and skilled, he was such a modest lovely human being.   He had  a wonderful, positive, presence on set, from which I learnt and will always be grateful.  His death is a tragedy.”
