Rules of Eligibility

Please ensure to read the below requirements carefully. Failure to meet any of the requirements could result in disqualification.

 

  1. Any television episode or “Made for Television” Film can qualify for this category;
  2. The episode or “Made for Television” film should have first aired within the United Kingdom between January 1st 2024 and 30th November 2024;
  3. “Made for Television” films which have a simultaneous paid Theatrical release only qualify for the Cinematography In Feature Film Award (see section 1).
  4. The Cinematography In A Television Drama (Streaming/International) Award is reserved for Television Drama or “Made for Television” Film, which is principally funded by a non-UK Studio/financier or produced by a streaming service for release on their platform.
  5. Television Drama made by UK Production Companies for UK Terrestrial or Cable release are eligible for the Cinematography In A Television Drama (UK) Award.
  6. A Television Drama cannot be nominated in both categories.
  7. In the event a Television Drama meets the criteria of both Television awards the British Society of Cinematographers Awards and Events Committee will rule on eligibility.
  8. Cinematographers are eligible to submit more than one Television Drama to this category but are limited to only one episode from each Television Drama.
  9. Episodes of Animated Television are eligible for this award.
  10. Episodes of Documentary Television are not eligible for this award.
  11. Episodes that credit two main unit cinematographers are eligible and both cinematographers must be listed on the submission.
  12. Episodes that feature more than two main unit cinematographers are not eligible.
  13. Cinematographers credited under “Additional Photography” or “Additional Cinematographers” or not eligible for submission;

 

Submission

Submission is via the British Society of Cinematographers Submission Form which includes:

 

  1. £200 Submission fee per entry;
  2. Cinematographer(s) credit as they appear on screen;
  3. Name of Streamer/platform;
  4. Date of first airing;
  5. Names of Production Companies responsible for the production of the episode.
  6. Viewing Link to be sent to voting members.
  7. Cut down Excerpt* please see details below.

Failure to meet any of the above criteria and requirements may result in disqualification.

The British Society of Cinematographers Awards and Events Committee will resolve all queries about eligibility and rules and reserve the right to declare any submission ineligible and/or change the eligibility and criteria as they see fit.

*Cut Down Excerpt

For Both Television categories a cut-down excerpt should be provided. This is as follows:

 

  1. Applicants must submit a six (6) minute selection from the submitted drama by upload to vimeo at www.vimeo.com (You will need to create an account but it is free to do so, see details in item 10);
  2. The uploaded entry must carry a front title card of 5 seconds duration with the name of the production and episode – please do not list the Cinematographer(s));
  3. Excerpts can be a continuous or series of excerpts, each no shorter than 30 seconds in duration, in the same order as presented in the film, with the original aspect ratio;
  4. Excerpts should come from the final broadcast episode and not be regraded or changed and should feature the original soundtrack;
  5. Excerpts should be provided as downloadable links and be H264 in either 24fps or 25fps depending on the original broadcast;
  6. Please label your excerpt NameOfShow_Episode#_6min;
  7. Please do not include title sequences which reveal the Cinematographers name or credit;
  8. The video should be uploaded to Vimeo in HD or 2k resolution in the highest quality possible;
  9. Please visit http://vimeo.com/help/compression for more info. It is important the ‘Download’ option is enabled to allow the jury to view the material uncompressed;
  10. It is extremely important that you check your upload on the Vimeo site using the link you provide. Some previous entries have not been in the correct aspect ratio and did not play correctly.
